“Déchomai significa anche sentire e capire, per esempio le parole dell’ospite, i suoi desideri e i suoi bisogni… I composti sottolineano poi l’amicizia, la stima verso l’ospite, anche se sconosciuto. Nel Nuovo Testamento si usa il verbo déchomai, “accogliere”, per indicare l’accoglienza del Regno di Dio (Mc 10,15), del Vangelo (2 Cor 11,4), della grazia (2 Cor 6,1), della Parola e dell’Ospite. Déchomai è il nome scelto per il progetto fotografico che si pone l’obiettivo di documentare come le associazioni/cooperative/enti religiosi italiani accolgono i migranti e i richiedenti asilo.
] Cosa accade quando realtà così diverse entrano in contatto? Come vengono vissute le differenze religiose e culturali da entrambe le parti? [
Déchomai è un racconto di intrecci di storie umane e quotidiane per andare oltre la paura che regna oggigiorno nella società nei confronti degli stranieri. Documenta le storie delle persone che hanno abbandonato la propria patria e delle persone che li accolgono, per ampliare gli orizzonti di chi guarda. Fornisce le testimonianze di un nuovo concetto di fede comune e comunitaria intriso di umanità e che nasce dalle differenze.
Vivere l’altro attraverso le immagini per aprire nuove possibilità di relazione.

In the New Testament the verb déchomai, “to welcome”, is used to denote the acceptance of the Kingdom of God (Mk 10:15), of the Gospel (2 Cor 11:4), of grace (2 Cor 6:1), of the Word and of the Guest. Déchomai is the name chosen for this photographic project that aims to document how italian associations / cooperatives / religious bodies welcome migrants and asylum seekers. What happens when such different realities meet? How are religious and cultural differences experienced from both parties?
The objective is to tell human everyday stories to go beyond the fear of foreigners that reigns in society nowadays. To document the stories of people who have left their homeland and of the people who welcome them, to broaden the horizons of the public. To provide proof testimonies of a new concept of common and community faith imbued with humanity, and born from differences. Sensitise and immerse the audience in what is perceived to be different, to open new possibilities of relationship.
